South Australia’s tri-cities
A major Australian Mining company need to scale back and then close a mine serviced by the tri-Cities region in South Australia, comprising Whyalla, Port Pirie and Port Augusta.
These areas contributed the bulk of the operations workforce and included a number of significantly smaller towns. We developed mapping to show where the mine’s workforce lived and then comparisons were made to specific location’s total workforce.
This enabled the impact of job losses to be shown and analysed at a very localised micro level and strategies put in place to mitigate and manage local area impacts, particularly on smaller communities.
